Part number information for MOS and CSG ICs
- Prefix MPS = Component manufacturer is MOS Technology, Plastic package
- Prefix MCS = Component manufacturer is MOS Technology, Ceramic package
- Postfix A, B or C = Speed indication
- Postfix R<n> = Revision <n>
- Postfix PD = DIP package
- Postfix PL = PLCC package
- Postfix -<nnn> = Indicates contents number <nnn> of a mask-programmed device
Other markings on MOS and CSG ICs
- Logo: most components have either a MOS logo or the C= CSG logo. The very latest Amiga custom chips have the text AMIGA TECH or AMIGA instead of the C= CSG logo.
- Datecode: this is a 4-digit number, the last two digits indicate the year in which the component was fabricated, the first two digits indicate the week within the year.
- Commodore part number: this is a number in the format xxxxxx-yy, where xxxxxx is the part number and yy indicates a revision, stepping, version or element of a set.
- Product / version code: this is usually a two digit number, of which the exact meaning is still unknown to me.
